Achievements
EmPOWERment, Inc.’s Rental Program:
Expanded our rental inventory to 65 units by adding three new properties, which housed homeless, disabled, and low-income families.
Completed renovations on 597 Terrell Road and moved a Veteran and his family into the home.
Completed renovations on 707 Gomains Avenue and moved a teacher and their young son into the home. The home was donated by the Town of Chapel Hill
EmPOWERment, Inc.’s Economic Development Program:
Maintained a 95 percent occupancy rate of the Midway Business Center for 87 percent of 2019.
Welcomed two new tenants to the Midway Business Center: Lazarus Repair and Maintenance and Rose Fashions.
Conducted financial literacy trainings in the Chapel Hill public housing complexes.
EmPOWERment, Inc.’s Community Organizing Program:
Hosted two community outreach meetings at Hargraves Community Center from January through June, despite funding cuts to the program.
Provided meaningful summer employment for seven low-income and minority youth through the Career Explorers program.
Hosted the annual Thanksgiving celebration, food basket giveaway, and Christmas dinner event at Hargraves Community Center.
Expanded outreach into Orange County’s Mobile Home Communities.
United Way of the Greater Triangle -
‘10 to Watch’ Initiative
EMPOWERment, Inc. was selected by the United Way of the Greater Triangle in the inaugural class of the ‘10 to Watch’ in the Orange County community. The program is a new investment initiative created to address the racial and cultural disparities between the leaders of nonprofit organizations and the communities that they serve.
As a ‘10 to Watch’ nonprofit, EMPOWERment, Inc. will receive $25,000 per year for two years from the United Way of the Greater Triangle as long EmPOWERment can match the grant through individual donations.
Thanks to the United Way’s matching donations, EMPOWERMent, Inc. successfully reached its goal of raising $100,000 in 2019!
