Meet The EmPOWERment, Inc. Team

Delores Bailey, executive director

Delores joined EMPOWERment, Inc. in the summer of 2002 as a community organizer and began the Career Explorers Program. In 2004, Delores was promoted to co-director and in the following year became executive director. Since joining EMPOWERment, Inc., Delores has been an outspoken advocate for residents of Chapel Hill. As executive director, one of her many major accomplishments includes coordinating with local community organizations to acquire a neighborhood conservation district in Chapel Hill.

SArita Nwachukwu, director of community programs

Sarita has been with EMPOWERment, Inc. since October of 2011. Sarita brings more than 30 years of experience in administration and management operations, and is responsible for organizing community outreach meeting and coordinating with volunteers on a daily basis. Sarita received her Master of Business Administration from The University of Maryland, College Park.

LaTanya Davis, OPERATIONS MANAGER

LaTanya joined EMPOWERment, Inc. in June of 2009. LaTanya received her two undergraduate degrees from North Carolina State University and completed her Master of Business Education at the University of South Florida. LaTanya assumed the Operations Manager position in January of 2019 after serving as EMPOWERment’s property manager for ten years.

 

Valencia Thompson, PROPERTY MANAGER

Valencia interned for EMPOWERment in 2009. After leaving EMPOWERment for a job in accounting, Valencia came back in 2016 and assumed our property manager role. Valencia has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master of Accounting and Finance from North Carolina Central University.

 

SharRon Reid, Housing Counselor

Sharron has worked for EMPOWERment for the past 20 years. She has a degree in Criminal Justice, but has worked as a state certified housing counselor for over 24 years. Sharon is now a nationally certified housing counselor. She’s worked at the Mental Health Center, at the Housing Authority at Chatham County, and has served as the Family Service Director at Habitat for Humanity in Chatham County for 14 years.

 

LEAH ADENIJI, DEPUTY DIRECTOR

Leah joined EMPOWERment, Inc. in 2024, bringing over 15 years of expertise in administration, operations, and project management. She holds a Bachelor’s in Communication, a Master of Business Administration, and a Master’s in Management from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In her role, Leah oversees day-to-day operations and contributes to the organization’s executive functions.
