EmPOWERment, Inc. is hiring a summer intern who can coordinate and lead the organization’s development and communications efforts over the summer. The Development and Communications summer intern will work directly with EmPOWERment’s Executive Director to plan a $3.75M capital campaign, execute development tasks, rebrand the organization, and develop and execute a social media strategy. This individual will take a leadership role in every aspect of development: strategy, pitching, relationship building, grant writing, and gift stewardship. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, relentlessly prioritized, able to navigate uncertainty, relationship-oriented, and have a passion for building community. This position will have significant autonomy and require the ability to manage vertically and laterally.Pay will be commensurable with experience level. The position may be converted to full-time, dependent on the candidate’s performance in the role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Development:
Development
Conduct landscape analyses of potential new state and local foundations and financial institution partners
Alongside the Executive Director, design and execute a comprehensive $3.75M fundraising strategy
Lead external Capital Campaign Committee to help plan and develop capital campaign strategy
Support the Executive Director with relationship cultivation, pitching, grant writing, and grant reporting
Create and implement a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors
Oversee the fundraising database and tracking system in Excel sheets
Maintain world-class gift recognition and appreciation programs
Communications:
Lead EmPOWERment’s comprehensive communications and PR strategy, designing a plan to build awareness of the organization and its work in Orange County
Tell the EmPOWERment story through effective, well-crafted narratives
Manage external marketing advisory committee to spearhead creative projects such as videos, sign campaigns, t-shirt designs, in order to support strategy
Manage EmPOWERment’s social media, website, and graphic design output
Identify and work with a communications agency to rebrand EmPOWERment, Inc. and its website
A Successful Summer will look like:
Development
Outreach to 5+ North Carolina financial institutions or foundations with grants written and submitted
Strategy documents created for the organization’s capital campaign and annual giving plan
Communications
At least 2 social media content creations per week
Successful organizational rebrand
Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or in progress
1+ year in a non-profit/advocacy management
Development and communications experience required
Proven experience organizing and directing small teams
Excellent communicator in written and verbal form
Extremely versatile, dedicated to efficient productivity
Experience planning and leading strategic initiatives
