EmPOWERment Inc. is building a 100% affordable 10 unit multifamily development titled the “PEACH Apartments”

This shovel-ready project will be called The PEACH--Pine Knolls EmPOWERment Affordable Community Housing Apartments. This development will house residents from 30-60% Area Median Income (AMI) in the historically African American neighborhood of Pine Knolls.

EmPOWERment Inc. is the first organization to build completely affordable multifamily rental housing in 15 years in Chapel Hill, Orange County. Labeled “a unicorn” by one of the members of Chapel Hill’s Affordable Housing Advisory Board, this project puts the low-wage worker in the forefront for rental housing; providing homes for our community’s essential workers who cannot afford to live where they work. 

Located in downtown Chapel Hill, on a bus route and within walking distance of The University of North Carolina and NC Memorial Hospital, the project is a community development collaboration between the historically African American neighborhood of Pine Knolls, EmPOWERment Inc, the Town of Chapel Hill, and Orange County and will be a model for future affordable rental projects designed for residents at 30-60% AMI.
